Jack says,

<< I am always interested how so many of those who deny the existence of
nipple confusion advise breastfeeding mothers to start the bottle within
the first few weeks of a baby's life, or "he won't take a bottle you
 know" (what a tragedy!). >>

And what about those babies that are "stuck" on one pacifier type, and daddy
is going to the drug store at 2:00 am to get another one cuz baby won't take
anything else?

Don't you all remember when Ross decided, in their infinite wisdom, to
produce and give to hospitals (for 'free' of course) their vanilla scented
pacifiers? The babies were SO hooked on them they wouldn't take ANY other
one, and of course, the only way parents could get new ones was to either
send 10 bucks to Columbus, OH to get 5 more of them (might take 4 weeks to
get), or come crawling back to the maternity unit begging for one, should
they have lost the original.

Babies not nipple confused? I agree with Jack that they certainly can become
nipple confused. Maybe they continue to go to the breast, but do they bf as
effectively? And maybe some brilliant babies don't have any trouble at all.
But there are those who definitely become nipple PREFERENCED and prefer the
right br to the left; the soft breast to the engorged breast, and certainly
one type of artificial nipple to another. Rare is the baby that will
willingly go from breast to NUK nipple, to breast, to Playtex, to Evenflo, to
breast, to Avent, to breast, to Health Flow, take a variety of pacifiers, and
feed effectively from all the above (except the paci's, of course...)
