With the birth of my first baby, I couldn't wait to breastfeed.. At the time
I was a midwife so my peer group was alll Bf'ers. I was surprised I didn't
'loveit' as much as I thought I would. It wasn't difficult for me, just
overwhelming to be so needed. I was 38 and had led a pretty full life. I had
many excuses as to how I could quit at 12 weeks. Thank goodness I waited
because by 12 weeks we had found our groove and I loved it. I share this story
with many of my clients, especially the 'older' prim-ip. I want them to know
it's not always love a first suck, but like many things in life, especially
relationships, given time, love and support, you can find your way to a great
place.
I like the time line analogy too, but I usually give it a little more time.
Feed by feed, day by day, week by week, month by month.... and if I'm lucky,
VOILA... an exclusively BF'd baby with a mom who didn't think she'd see day
7!!
