I used to assist occasionally with the support group at a hospital where I
worked part time. We didn't have much structure to the group but in order to
find topics, we used to ask each mom to introduce herself and baby, along with
the question she hoped to get an answer to. I wrote it down on a pad of paper
and summarized it after intro's. That gave us a "program" for the day. Many
times it just "flowed" as the moms began the meeting. Weight checks were another
reason they would come to the Group. It was also a good way to get a mom in for
a "casual" consult if we thought she needed one and she didn't. An invitation
to the support group was a non-threatening way to get a look at things.
