Thanks for all of the suggestions.  I'll let you know what helped.

Someone suggested the possiblity that my client was pregnant and that the
heavy bleed was a miscarriage, with some retained placenta.  Does anyone
know if an OTC pregnancy test would give any indication of retained
placenta?  I know that those things are not always effective even with a
true pregnancy, but wouldn't it be helpful if our clients, whom we suspect
have some placental fragment, could use one of these to see if this is a
possiblilty?
