Just for a story...I thought I would tell you how Lactnet got started.  I
was the conference coordinator for my local affiliate. KGA was to be
speaker, and I remember being so excited that she was finally coming to
Vermont.  This was in May 94 that she came here to speak. Soon after the
conference, we talked quite a bit on the phone, re: LC things, and computer
things, and I tried to email her. She didn't check her mail much (!) due to
a poor connection, and so, I told her she had really better get that fixed
and USe the darn email.

Well, we began to envision a larger group of people getting
email....talking, sharing, etc. I belonged at the time to another listserv
group (which I co owned) which talked about Corgi dogs. There I had a
wonderful co owner who taught me quite a bit about LISTSERV, and I thought,
we shoudl do THAT with Lactation....LACTNET was "born" in December 1994 via
Georgia Tech, but soon after changed servers to our present home at UMMED ,
housed in Boston. A very nice sysop /medical student , Norm, saw our plea
for a home on Listowners-L, and offered us space and assistance.  Voila!
There we are..and here we stay....we started with a few LCs, etc..and are up
to nearly 700 today, nearly one year later.

So,  there you have the story.  LACTNET is the "brain" child of myself and
Kathleen Auerbach, (and is not affiliated with ILCA except in the fact that
both co owners are members and supporters of ILCA.)It exists today to serve
and support and provide connection for anybody working in the lactation field.
