That's an excellent idea, putting the baby's legs toward mom's face in
sidelying.

characteristics as I described ie. assymetrical with irregular border.
Have you ever noticed that sometimes the tissue of a previously inverted
nipple once everted, appears much more *tissue like* than the *skin
like* appearance of a normal nipple AND that these (former) nipples seem
much more friable? HER nipple appearance (although certainly not at all
inverted!) is somewhere in between.....does this make sense?

I have seen moms with double nipples, and split nipples (where there is
not quite two seperate nipples, but there is a seperation between the
two halves of the nipple) and all kinds of variations in between. I
wonder if the different texture you are noticing has something to do
with the broken fibrous tissue of the adhesions that held the nipple
inverted. I have not noticed formerly inverted nipples to be more
friable, but it would make sense if the nipple retracted somewhat and
moisture became trapped, or if there were still adhesions preventing the
extension of the nipple in the baby's mouth... I imagine if the
adhesions were preventing full lengthening of the nipple, it might
stress the skin and lead to injury. I'm going to keep my eyes open in
this situation in the future, and I'll let you know if I notice more
friability in formerly inverted nipples.

This is what I love about lactnet, we can save a lot of time by
discussing possible correlations, and getting a lot of people looking
out for them at the same time!
