What an interesting idea! In hindsight I now know that I developed
fibromyalgia around the time of the birth of my 3 rd child (30 something
years ago). I stopped nursing him at 2 1/2 mo on the advice of my dr
because at that point I had had a series of 7 breast infections (most with
fever, but I didn't know how to tx).

I went on to nurse the next two sibs for 2 and 2 1/2 years in spite of
repeated bouts of mastitis with fever and plugged ducts without fever. It
did improve greatly with last baby when I changed bra styles (see
archives). I also learned not to nurse lying down. (Outter quadrants
usually affected, I thought from poor drainage). I learned to be very
tuned into early symptoms and usually used REST, heat and frequent nursing.
Got to the point that I didn't use antibiotics with or without fever -
just REST, heat and freq. nsg. With 5 kids I figured the rest was probably
the most needed. I camped out on the couch with baby and heating pad and
watched the kids destroy the living room!

But it sure is interesting to wonder what part fibro played in all this! I
lean to the autoimmune idea. and I know some people can associate initial
attack of fibro with a viral infection or trauma. It's been too long for
me to remember any associated incidents with the beginnning.

Also which came first the chicken or the egg, I just remember all those
infections early on while nursing #3 and I date my fibro symptoms from his
early childhood. And what this means for your client - I don't have a clue.
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
