~~~ Interesting. I admit I still use the phrases "football ( American
kind)", and "cradle" and "cross cradle." Most moms still use them, so I guess I
use them too then work "outward" to skills and phrases and "positions" of
some  biologically nurturing style and offer that option as well. It's also
interesting how many times I've done a follow-up visit and the mom has gone
back  to whatever position/hold/style she was using before I was there, even
though it  was harder for the baby to latch on comfortably, or even at all,
and mom working  SO HARD to LATCH the baby. Moms I think are still told by
so many MDs and some  breastfeeding group meetings, to LATCH their baby on.
Helping mom let go of her  impression that it's her job ( or mine, as the MD
told her) to LATCH the baby  on, is a challenge. Babies in BN positions
show their amazing competence, and  mom needs the ability to relax/have
patience to let baby work their  way to their own self-attachment. It doesn't
always work, I find, but it's  always good to try, and when it does work moms are
often  thrilled both that it worked and thrilled how cool their  baby is to
be able to really do it...:)
Peace,
Judy
