That movie came out many years ago and I used to show that clip to trainee
teachers and midwives. We all thought it was hilarious as Monty Python is
for those who love that British humour, but also very sad because under all
the exaggerated events and statements there was so much truth.
All the attention was on the new monitor and the professor who was showing
it to the staff - they only remember at the last moment to wheel the woman
in to try out the monitor, they forgot they needed the "Patient"
Then the labouring woman, lying helplessly on her back, pleads, "Well, what
should I do?" they look at her in astonishment and reply:
"You? But you`re not qualified."
I think we can say that labour wards are rather more advanced today (and
they don`t smack babies` bottoms any more) but the underlying message is
still there.
And so on........
