In every state and almost every county there is now a "bioterrorism
program" - there is also Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as part of the
Health Department. Assign yourselves the task of learning who they are,
their addresses, fax and phone numbers. Just do that THIS WEEK...
We need to make sure that they ALL know that breastfeeding initiation,
maintenance and relactation whenever possible needs to be part of the
training of all their staff.

We need to work on the information that needs to be shared and what angle
(yes, it sounds crass, but you NEED AN ANGLE) to take. I'm hoping our
wonderful "wordsmiths" in this group will get going with this.

I had already submitted the WHO and UNICEF information to our own staff, as
the coordinator is the cubicle next to mine... It was strange, but I was
feeling this frustrated, "you don't understand what a REAL emergency is
like" over 3 weeks ago - and I remember discussing with her how you can't
count on getting food, water and cleaning supplies FOR DAYS OR EVEN WEEKS
when a REAL emergency occurs.... Katrina has come out to prove me right!
Now I'm making sure she and her boss remember what I had said and that
breastfeeding MUST be part of the program to save infants' lives....

floods...without counting the man-made dangers!)
