If you are on Twitter, breastfeeding mothers need your support!

Today, formula maker Abbott (maker of Similac infant formula) has launched
a campaign entitled Strong Moms Empower, is asking supporters to sign a
pledge to not “judge mothers,” and has a conference going on right now. To
learn more, read here:

This campaign that is built on stolen messaging from Best for Babes, does
not empower moms, and is a huge slap in the face to the advocates,
educators, clinicians and researchers who have devoted lifetimes to
strengthening breastfeeding awareness and support for our collective health.
This is a slick marketing tactic to whitewash Abbot’s corporate image.
Supporters of evidence-based information can send tweets using Similac’s
hashtag. Of course, one of the challenges is being perceived as being
judging, so we’re asking everyone to keep it very positive and focused on
the importance of transparency in marketing and sharing evidence-based
information with mothers. It is evidence-based information that empowers
mothers, not false and misleading advertising from formula manufacturers.

Please be sure to include the hashtag #StrongMomsEmpower so that organizers
see your message.

Sample tweets include:

Making moms strong = empowering with evidence-based information, not
selling a product. #StrongMomsEmpower

Support ALL moms, regardless of their choices. Give them evidence-based
info, not veiled formula marketing. #strongmomsempower

"Want to empower moms? Empowerment comes from *information*, not
corporations. #strongmomsempower #bfing #formula"

I will empower moms, but I don't need a corporation's help to do it.
Empowerment comes from within #strongmomsempower #stopSTRONGarmingMOMS
