Maureen-as always you have such words of wisdom. I love your suggestion for a
note on donating cans of unsolicited ABM.

Karen-I love it!!! Hold the ABM for 24-48 hrs on a jaundiced baby! LOL

Jack- Words of wisdom for the formula rep???

Which brings me to my problem. We have a pediatrician who distorts the facts
to manipulate vulnerable new moms into giving their perfectly healthy newborns
supplemental ABM!! He tells them that they MUST give supplements for 3 days
until their milk is in so that baby doesn't get dehydrated. But, while they
are in the hospital, most of the nurses will tell them that it's better not to
supplement. His latest tactic is telling the moms, "Your baby has lost weight
(they all lose wt in the 1st few days of life!), your baby is dehydrated (how
many wet diapers does he expect a baby to have in the first 48 hrs of life?)
and your baby is jaundiced (baby is 36 hrs old, bili 11.6, another baby also
36 hrs old, bili 10.1-mom was told normal is 10.)" He tells ALL moms, for
their baby's health, to breastfeed 10 min on each breast then "give the baby
dessert" (ABM). Some dessert?!?! He also tells them he is supportive of
breastfeeding!!! That's where he lies! If he was so supportive, he'd take the
time to become better informed. I have to see this man in the hospital on
rounds (he is a private pediatrician)! I was so angry that I couldn't even
speak to him, otherwise I would have said something that I would regret. The
last time I saw him I had to leave the room. But, I will not let this
situation continue. I need to know the best ways to deal with it. I'm sure
others are dealing with similar situations.
HELP!
