Off the top of my head I don't have the references you require. I would
suggest it is informative to ask the physicians their reasons for demanding
that mothers cease breastfeeding on confirmation of pregnancy. Like the
rest of the population, they grew up with similar cultural beliefs. Reasons
in the past (and today) why there is opposition to breastfeeding during
pregnancy include,
- that the milk becomes harmful, even poisonous (which we know is untrue),
- that the foetus won't grow, directly because of breastfeeding (false)
- that there will be no colostrum for the new baby (false)
- that uterine contractions caused by breastfeeding will cause the foetus
to be lost or premature deliver.

As regards uterine contractions, another cause of contractions, sex with
orgasm, is unlikely to be banned by the same people who ban breastfeeding,
in a pregnancy that is going well. Obviously, if the pregnancy is at risk
and the mother has a history of miscarriage, this needs to be taken into
consideration very seriously. In other cases, if the pregnancy is going
well and there has been no advice on limitation of sexual relations,
including foreplay, I believe that the person advising immediate weaning
should justify this advice.
