Hello Lactnetters: I am having trouble with advise that docs gave a mother
who had a baby with blood in the stool. Baby is 2 mo/old, completely
breastfed to now, gained 4.5 pounds since birth. This mother had several
docs tell her that the blood in the stool was caused by her breastfeeding.
They had her take the baby off the breast and feed pedialite for 24 hours.
They then put baby on lactose free formula. According to the mother after
3 or 4 days the stool "almost" cleared up. Doc. has told her to try breast
again this week (Thurs.) after mother has gone dairy free for a week. But
they also told her to pump and store milk.

Questions:

1) Is this possible that breastmilk caused the blood in the stool? After
two months of perfect breastfeeding?

2) Why would doc. tell her to store milk if they suspect lactose
intolerance and her milk would have had lactose at least at first?

Anybody with any gems of wisdom would be very appreciated.
