Pat--We don't recommend iron-fortified formula, either, when baby is mostly
breastmilk-fed, for the reason you stated above.  Based on what I had
concluded from reading the literature, we recommend switching to
iron-fortified formula to supplement breastmilk if/when formula becomes the
major part of the baby's diet.  I'm pretty sure Ruth Lawrence also suggests
this in the latest edition of her book (which I ought to have at home but
don't).
