White stools in association with low grade fever and abdominal discomfort could be a sign of viral hepatitis. Young children get relatively mild symptoms with viral hepatitis, so the doctor needs to maintain a degree of suspicion. It can be diagnosed with a blood test. Viral hepatitis is common in kids who are in daycare or school settings and is spread by contact with infected urine or stool.
