Hi Kym,
Does your mom have this same pain when she is pumping? If this is yeast then
the pain should be felt with both nursing and pumping.
This is just a theory, but with the surgery it could be possible that there
is adhesions and this might be some of the pain she is experiencing. Does
she support her breast during feedings? Maybe this would help. The pain
factor may also contribute to her decreasing supply. Has she taken any pain
meds and do they help? Does the baby have active swallowing at the breast
and appear satisfied after a brfdg? Is the baby receiving any supplements?
Gaining well?
The best way to know about how the surgery was performed is to get the
surgical report and this her OB should be able to obtain.
Look at her posture when nursing, if she is guarding against the pain this
may be exacerbating it. Try relaxation techniques, slow deep breathing, neck
and upper back massage. Try nursing in the tub (with assistance).
Hope she feels better and can continue to breastfeed.
