I had asked for information on frenulums for a mom I am working. I just
wanted to say thanks for all of the references. Baby had the procedure done last
Friday. Baby is nursing 98% better. Mom is extremely happy.

The one part that made me a bit angry was the fact that the baby had to fast
for 5 hours and be put under at the hospital for this procedure. I had called
my doctor but he was not on mom's insurance. My doctor would have done
procedure in his office for $75 plus office fee of $55. I have watched oral surgeons
do this procedure on other babies. It is very fast and seems simple. The oral
surgeon was also not on her insurance so he could not do this either. He
wanted $400 to do the procedure. I have no idea what the hospital charge is for a
frenuloplasty.

I am very happy that mom and baby are doing great. She was worried about milk
supply but I think she is just not getting engorged anymore because she is on
a more frequent feeding schedule (instead of putting baby off for fear of
pain). Baby's diapers are fine and weight gain is fine.

If I had never done this home visit her pediatrician would have had that baby
on the bottle full time by his 2nd week of life. Mom is writing a letter to
doctor telling her that this did help with breastfeeding. She is also going to
include some of the research.
