Unfortunately in Western culture we are predisposed to believing that IMS
is even possible. This is of course the partial result of marketing by
those who stand to benefit greatly, and who virtually guarantee that the
reaction to their ads will be to use their brand X instead of nursing more.
Ads like, "From the very first moment your baby can have the very best,"
and "If you can't breastfeed then don't worry, our stuff is the answer to
all your problems." "For mothers who can't breastfeed." What's even
funnier is that brand X and brand Y are both "The best thing next to
mother's milk." in comparison to the other one. And then of course we have
the ultimate package: Take our pills and just in case you run out of
breastmilk, here's some formula samples to go with the pills.
Then we have the nurses in my own clinic (not the same one we use
personally, but the public one - my nurse would never dare tell me I don't
have enough) who give mothers samples "Just in case you won't have enough
milk." "Just in case the baby gets hungry."

IMS exists because our culture believes the alternative is a high-quality
product. Wish I could get in to one of these factories for a tour. Wonder
what their insect:food ratio is.

In Israel they even have a helpline. Was thinking of calling and telling
them I don't have enough milk and what should I do about it?
