Here's my frustration for the week. Three separate mom baby dyads with thrush.
All three had problems getting proper treatment. Physicians in two cases were
extremely reluctant to prescribe diflucan for more than i dose. When I
intervened and gave the appropriate references, Kay Hoover's publication and
Hale's MMM, I was able to covince them to prescribe. It took a lot of time and
phone calls etc. The third case was the most upsetting. Baby being treated
with nystatin suspension by pedi. When mom also complained to pedi about her
own discomfort with burning nipples and shooting pains he told her to use cold
cream! I had to contain myself when she called me. Thank god her OB gave her
Nystatin. I then had to reccomend the diflucan as well to very unreceptive MD
ears especially when I said 14 days of treatment. Where is physician education
on this topic? I sent them all the photocopy of Kay Hoover's Thrush leaflet. I
hope they look at it.
