One of the best pieces of advice I ever read, while raising my six babies was: "Rather than concentrating on getting the baby to sleep through the night, concentrate on getting everyone back to sleep as soon as possible." How does this mom handle night feedings? Does she get up and turn on lights and go out and sit in the living room and turn on the TV Trying not to wake up any more than necessary will help mom get back to sleep, too. I put the baby's bed and a recliner in my room. I kept some pillows in the recliner, including a cervical pillow. When the baby woke at night, I could get us both comfortable in the recliner, get him/her latched on and go back to sleep (since she doesn't want to have the baby in bed with her). I also got a night-light so that I didn't need to turn any lights on. Of course, I agree with everyone else that there is nothing abnormal about a baby waking every 2-3 hours at night.
