Hi everyone

I am in the process of doing a master program in muskuloskeletal health in pediatric care in chiropractic and one of my assignment is to critically appraise a meta-analysis. The one they chose is - Breast-feeding and childhood obesity a systematic review by S Arenz1, R Ru¨ckerl2, B Koletzko3 and R von Kries1*

In this paper they used studies that includes mixed feeding ie breastfeeding and formula. They still came out to say that breastfeeding had a protective effect but I would like to find a reference that talks about formula and obesity. I would like to say that it would be better to really establish if we could have studies comparing exclusive breastfeeding versus formula feeding and the rate of obesity. I have looked and have not been able to find much that specifically explores the formula and obesity or how formula changes the baby's gut even if it is small amounts. In other words this study could have shown a much bigger protective effect if there was no formula at all in the equation. Can anyone help ???

thanks

Valerie Lavigne
