I agree that affordability is NOT the issue. Let's call it a matter of PRIORITY. Alot of parents will choose to spend their money elsewhere, (on their dogs) but then again, not everyone owns a dog - and not everyone can afford a dog.  We cannot educate the parents into placing the baby's health as a priority, but I would not like to hold that baby accountable for the parents bad choice. And again, we know who are the ones who really cannot pay more than a minimal fee. For those, a minimal fee is also a very HIGH fee. Often these are the very same people that call to wish you (and me) a Happy New Year and show their appreciation.  IBCLC's definitely should be paid salaries, like any other profession. No one should be expected to work for free. I suppose it is like any field, some charge more and some charge less, but it is important that we can offer a diverse service and network.
