Dear Lactnetters,

Ever since I started my breastfeeding work 16 years ago, I have been passionate for this topic.
You all know what I mean or else you would not be on this list, right?! ;-)
I joined Lactnet in November 2007 and have learned a great deal.
When the work at home was hard and difficult, there was always this list to turn to.
So many inspiring and strong people, that dare to take courageous stands for babies and moms... it is wonderful.
This list always makes me realize how much there is to learn in many, many areas.
The amount of postings is often overwhelming, but I try to keep track in order not to miss out on anything!
I am really proud to be a member of this wonderful, worldwide breastfeeding community.
The inspiration from here has always been valuable, because it gave me the strength to go on.
All of this was certainly not for nothing and did not go unnoticed... listen to this!
Every two years there is a big breastfeeding conference in the Netherlands.
Since 2004, an award is granted to someone who has made and makes an important contribution to the breastfeeding work in our country.
There are always three nominees and the prize is awarded during the conference to the person who has the highest number of votes.

And guess what... I am one of the nominees this year! Yeah! I am thrilled about this recognition for my work.

I really hope that I will be able to gather enough votes to win the prize. THIS IS WHERE ALL OF YOU COME IN! :o))
If you feel you have been able to get an impression of what I do and you feel I deserve this award... please vote for me!

This is what the text says:
"Marianne is the driving force behind many initiatives to still better support breastfeeding, within and outside of the VBN (Dutch volunteer organisation, MV).
She has a healthily critical/acute attitude, is full of energy and an active, tireless motivator! In all her expressions, as a co-worker of the VBN and as a co-worker of the Centre of Breastfeeding Knowledge, she provides informative and well readable texts and she creates a clear image of breastfeeding as the norm, the basis and starting point of caring for babies. She is a member of Ethics and International Code Committee within ILCA, the professional organisation of breastfeeding specialists worldwide, and in that position works on the ethical aspects of the lactation consultant profession.
Marianne is a mom to four daughters, lactation consultant IBCLC, editor/translator and runs her own private practice, Borstvoedingscentrum Panta Rhei.

This is the link: http://borstvoedingblijft.nl/stemmen.html. You fill out your own name and e-mail address and then you click on 'Kies kandidaat'.
You will see my name and... hit it! hahaha Click on 'Verstuur' ('Send') and you're done.
Be sure that your vote does not get lost because it comes in too late, so vote now! ;-)

Your support will be much appreciated and will help me put extra weight on my views when in discussion with policymakers.
The award will really back me up in the big projects that lie ahead and that all have one thing in common: baby and mom need to be central in our policies, our daily practice and our written information.
Winning the prize will also help the promotion of the book I am going to publish later this year, the Dutch translation of 'Sleeping With Your Baby' by James McKenna.
You all have your own circles of breastfeeding minded people... please forward this e-mail and ask them to consider a vote for me.
My co-nominees are good, too. Actually, all three of us come from the Dutch breastfeeding volunteer organisation. Isn't that great?!
They also deserve to win a prize, but there can only be one winner and I'll be honest: I hope it will be me!
Thank you for your help; I will let you know (after 5th October) how things worked out.

Warmly,

Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands
