To Denise Parker -
This is anecdotal RE: Vacume extraction - I haven't seen studies.
However, I had vacume for the VBAC birth of my daughter 9 years ago.
She was very alert, no latch on difficulties, etc. I must say, the
VE was only for 2 contractions and she didn't have hematomas,
mishappen head, etc. She was very alert for about 1 1/2 hours after
birth - not as interested in nursing as in being held and looking at
everything! She nursed for about 1/2 hour at the end of that first
period, then slept only about 6 hours before waking and nursing well
from there on out for the next 22 months.
