Some history before the question:

Working with a mother, G3 P2 L2, who was told prior to first pregnancy that
her testosterone levels were too high for her to get pregnant without medical
intervention of some sort. All three pregnancies occurred without the use
of any interventions. Miscarriage with second pregnancy at about six weeks.
First child was born prematurely, mother pumped and at six weeks was "out of
milk". Supply began decreasing from four weeks until there was nothing at
six weeks. No reasons were identified at the time.
Second child is now four weeks old and mother is "out of milk" despite
taking herbal tincture mixture of galactogues and pumping regularly. Baby has had
a difficult time latching and sustaining a latch consistently since birth.
No oral anomalies or other identified issues. Baby has been adjusted twice
since birth by chiropractor. He has latched with more frequency and longer
duration during the last week. Mother called last night because she was
pumping blood from one breast. No pain, redness of that breast. Other breast
might be developing mastitis. During conversation we discussed her previous
hormone panel which showed elevated testosterone and I recommended she seek the
same from an OB and start from there to ascertain the reason behind her
sudden decrease in milk production. (She did take one Entex (powerful
antihistamine) and had not taken another for over 48 hours once she learned it can
decrease supply. She started taking the herbal tincture right away and increased
frequency of pumping. Milk supply hasn't rebounded since that time.)
So that is the current situation. I think we are going down the right path
with that. Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated!
A question the mother had for me is this; why would she leak when she is
crying or speaking to her husband (stationed overseas with the military) on the
phone? This happened during the last month of her pregnancy (he left about
that time) and since birth.
TIA,
Christie
