Karen,
thanks so much for your references. I will get them. After going to the
seminar on abuse I remembered a young woman I had contact with last fall. I
saw this girl in the hospital and made a home visit plus several deserate
calls from her. The situation was puzzeling in that this mother had
everything going for her as far as breast feeding, lots of milk, no problems
with nipples, agreable baby and the two just couldn't connect. Mom was very
agitated whenever I talked with her, smoked lots and baby was fussy, but for
all my reassurances that things really were going OK (and they were) she just
couldn't continue with the BF. There was no father (that I could tell) in
the picture. Six months later I got a call from our mental health center to
talk with a young mother who was on suicide watch to come to our mothers
support group, and guess who, it was this young woman. I never found out if
abuse was part of the picture but when I look back and remember how many
times I talked with this girl and her problems I sure wonder. Looking at the
stats and this girls situation I would almost bet on it. Sorry this is long,
but I wonder if we shouldn't be more aware of this problem.
PS the girl and her never came back to our group but she seemed to be in
good shape when she left the mental health center.

Linda
