Diana said.. "I believe metformin has helped PCOS mothers *when they have taken it
during
pregnancy.* Something about the action on blood sugar helps regulate
the
other hormones so that the breasts do change. I have not encountered
any
research that indicates metformin would help a postpartum mother with
milk
supply issues, unless she was planning a subsequent pregnancy.'

I am only a volunteer breastfeeding councelor, but I've actually had quite a bit of success with moms who continued to take their metformin postpartum. I don't recall if I ever ran into official research on the situation or not, but I have had a few cases where the doctors took them off of the met after the birth of the baby and their milk disappeared, only for those mothers to start taking it again and have their come back. Coincidence? Maybe, however it worked for them. I've also had moms use it in conjunction with domperidone as well, but for some it seemed the combination is what helped them the most, not one drug or another.
