A minor correction is necessary. Actually, ILCA was begun in 1984, not
1985, by Faith Bedford. It was a membership opened by 12 people who did the
background work necessary to present it to others, which was done in 1985
(July) at its first meeting. That first meeting identified the name of its
journal, and voted on the first slate of officers.

IBLCE also took shape in 1984--at the same meeting, and began the work that
resulted in the first exam being offered in 1985. Had this not been the
case (beginning in 1984), 1985 would have been a far less eventful year for
both of those organizations.

"We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly
disguised as impossible situations."
