Some years ago in a college nutrition class I read an research article that
solids before 4 mo definitely affected a BF mom's milk supply and after
didn't seem to matter as much. I thought, of course that is what LLLI has
said for years! I didn't save the article :-( I think it is sort of
obvious that a wiry, active, nibby baby would go more for solids and
decrease his nursing, food on a spoon sort of suits his style. HCP may have
felt that solids are a less seductive/damaging alternative than adding
other milk.
Also no night nursings is significant. A slow gaining baby who is "sleeping
all night" can usually be pepped up in the weight dept by simply adding a
night feed. They are usually longer and more leisurely, without day time
distractions for the busy baby.
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
