I want to give a big thank you to those of you who answered my post (3/6/04)
re. the mom with the sudden drop in her supply. Your prompt and thorough
responses were very much appreciated. It was a wonderful feeling to place a
post just before going to bed late at night and find six helpful responses
waiting in the morning! (and more over the coming day . . .) Lactnet is
such a phenomenal resource!!!

As an update, mom increased her own fluids, stopped offerring formula and
spent a couple of "baby bonding days" while dad took over housework, etc.
She continued to pump periodically over the next few days and found that her
supply gradually came back. I spoke with her again today and she feels that
things are completely back to normal, and that she has an abundant supply.
Baby is stooling and wetting well (and I'm not sure that this area was ever
truly a problem)- and never took any formula. Mom is committed to an
extended nursing relationship.

In retrospect, I'm still not sure what went on with this dyad. Mom was very
(over) focused on how much she got when she pumped, and may have had a
couple of days where her supply relative to baby's intake was down due to
dehydration from her trip, a growth spurt, and/or changes in hormones.
Incidentally, she did do a home pregnancy test and it was negative. She
still hasn't resumed menses. Perhaps she ovulated (?).

At any rate, I thank you for your words of wisdom!
