I have heard that some hospitals here use patches during labour (for mothers
who smoke) in an effort to stop them from heading for the door (no smoking
allowed within 10m (30ft) of a hospital building in most cases) the moment
the baby is born.  This seems to enable mothers to stick around long enough
to attempt a first feed.
