Someone posted that she felt that getting paid was what differntiated
bet. lay and professional.
I'm not sure that is the connotation. When psychoanalysis began as a
profession, all analysts were MD's. When non-MD's got into the act, they
were called "lay analysts". All were getting paid. Many professions have
had struggles of this nature, where people other than the traditionally
trained ones wanted to become part of the profession.
Just another 2 cents worth.
