I also saw the report the other night and wondered why no mention was
made of rubber bottle nipples and pacifiers, since they said the earlier
one was exposed, the greater the risk of developing an allergy. I also
wonder if anyone has ever asked those with a confirmed allergy how they
were fed as infants.

One thing I dislike about latex nipples and pacifiers is that they
become soft, sticky, or cracked, after a while and I believe a baby
using one that is in that condition is ingesting a fair amount of it.
For that reason, I have preferred to use silicon nipples when my
children have had them.

Does anyone know of any specific problems that could be caused by a baby
using a latex nipple? I wonder if it could cause problems in the mouth
or digestive tract that would be mistaken for something else. Maybe a
switch to silicon nipples would be indicated in such cases.

Of course, we hope that babies will have only good old flesh and blood
nipples but, since most of the families are work with are adopting
rather than giving birth, I rarely see such a case. Even most adoptive
mothers who nurse use bottles sometimes.

Aloha again!
