Hello Alice,

PTP

I was very pleased to see your post. A mother I've been working with just
had a baby have the cleft and lip palate repair surgery this week. She has
been exclusively pumping up to now. She feels strongly about getting the
baby to breast and has always been a long term direct bf mother with her
other children. I no longer have direct contact with her and any assistance
will be via phone or email.

This particular situation is new to me since the mothers I've dealt with
before never put baby to breast after the surgery.

I sent her a link to your website. If anyone has resources I can send about
getting a baby to breast for the first time after surgery it would be much
appreciated. I've encouraged her to keep things pleasant, offering the
breast for comfort, trying an SNS, and lots of skin to skin. There are
other children at home as well which will obviously complicate things.

Thank you,

Allison Laverty Montag BA, IBCLC, RLC
