Normal bfg (everyone robust and luck holding out) is pretty easy. But a
good definition of breastfeeding being "hard" is the story recently shared
on LN of the mom with the repeated episodes of mastits who ended in hospt.
with IV abx. I'd say that fits my definition of hard, and she'd be dead now
but for abx.

There is a big difference between the sort of everyday challenges of
acquiring the maternal role, getting familiar with the skills required for
successful bfg, etc. and the kinds of train-wrecks many mothers experience.
Do I think it is possible to help such women past these experiences? Sure I
do; that's our job. But to equate experiences like some of these moms
endure with practicing gymnastics, ummh, NO. Several days ago I sited some
historical records on infant mortality. Babies who survived in the past
probably only did so when bfg worked. When it didn't (trainwrecks of the
past) babies did die in huge numbers, and they are buried along the side of
every trail in the world. A good motto for evolution should be: Biology:
It just barely works.
Luckily, since the numbers are so huge, the race survives.
