Recently had a call from a mother expecting her third baby who quite
suddenly became engorged at 34 weeks gestation. I haven't seen her, but
over the phone she described very full uncomfortable breasts that she was
expressing for comfort.
Two weeks earlier she had been admitted for premature labour which did not
progresss - she was treated with indomethasone suppositories, a ritodrine
drip and salbutamol drip at various times (don't have full history). She is
not currently on any medications, and yes I did ask - the baby is fine and
moving well.
Needless to say she is no longer expressing and I have advised cabbage
leaves or ice packs for comfort.
Anybody got any idea what's going on here? (No, this didn't happen with her
other pregnancies)
Thanks,
Denise
