I am wondering what other NeoNatal ICU's are recommending parents use
and how often to fortify breast milk. Currently we are sending babies
who were very low birthweight home on 4 bottles of fortified (with Human
Milk Fortifier) or 4 bottles of Neosure and the other feedings can be
breast feeding. My question is what is your policy, how many bottles (
either fortified or formula) do you recommend and for how long after
discharge. This is so frustrating and time consuming for mother's whose
plan was to exclusively breast feed. At what gestation at birth do you
decrease the fortifier? Do you fortify if 33 weeks or more? Thanks for
any information you have. If you have any articles or information too
detailed for this forum please e-mail me. Thanks so much.
