Hi Beth,

The citation is from Canada, Livingstone V et al, and appeared in JHL.

Livingstone V, Stringer J. The treatment of Staphylococcus aureus infected
sore nipples: a randomized controlled study. J Hum Lact 1999 [March issue,
from memory].

If you are an ILCA member, you can get it online. If not, local medical or
nursing libraries should have it. Your client's medical doctor should find
it interesting and helpful.

Other possibilities for persistent sore nipples, which can be a long shot
(but they happen!), are:

- torticollis (wry neck) in the baby

- labial frenum (string attaching the upper lip to the gum)

I assume you have checked for nipple vasospasm and the colour changes?

Virginia,

in Brisbane, Queensland, really suffering in this heat.

.. can not for the life of me put my hands on a citation that I need - have
checked in the archives too........... I need something to take to a doc
regarding persistent cracked nipples and the possibility that this is
related to staph or some bacterial infection.
