From a very cursory review of the info Nicole Bernshaw sent, I would say the
best thing to do for this baby would be as much skin-to-skin as possible,
and continuing ad lib nursing. The fact that he is still alive with "the
highest lactic acid levels they've seen" may be due to the kind of mothering
he's getting (the Mitochondrial Disease site was the most useful on this -
these babies need to eat ad lib and to have as little stress as possible in
their short lives).

What a travesty that this mom is needing to come to LLL for the medical
information she desperately needs to take good care of this little one. Is
it possible there's a patient advocate in the area who could help her??

With a very saddened heart,
Dawn Kersula MA, RN, FACCE, IBCLC in Vermont - who often feels like her
first job in Lamaze class is to be a translator.
