Rachael says,

<<I have an OB who insists it is not safe to breastfeed during pregnancy.
She agrees that the receptors are not active in the first trimester. She
asked me for research and not kellymom. I am actually on maternity leave and
have just not had much time to look besides a quick google search.>>

Another one of my bugaboos. Breastfeeding is normal. Pregnancy is
normal. Baby-led weaning is normal. Breastfeeding during pregnancy is normal.
Why is it up to you to prove it is safe? It is up to the OB to find proof
that it is not ever safe.

If breastfeeding during pregnancy is going to throw someone into labor so
quickly, why on earth (ask her this) for an abortion they do a D&C or a
morning after pill? Why not just do some nipple stimulation? Why are we
using pitocin to induce labor? Why not just pump? If nipple stimulation alone
could put someone into labor, we would have a nation full of premature
infants.

How many docs say to the mom -- no sex during pregnancy because you will
stimulate oxytocin and you'll go into labor????

Yes, truly there are some moms who have a history of preterm labor and a
very sensitive uterus, but unless the doc says complete pelvic rest and
don't even let the water in the shower spray on your breasts, then it is safe.

Refer her to "Breastfeeding: A Guide for the Medical Profession" pp
683-684 in which it states: "Pregnancy can and does occur when a woman is
lactating. There is no need to wean the first infant from the breast which is
often ordered by a physician." Text written by two physicians. Is that
acceptable to this doc?

Sigh.
