Dear Lactnetters,
I had a call from a pedi this afternoon concerning one of his patients. The two
and a half month old adopted baby is not tolerating formula and may have medical
problems that they are still looking into. Another pedi in his practice had
recently seen the baby and suggested the parents mix their own formula with
canned milk and at that time the baby was taking it better than other formulas.
The baby's regular pedi and parents talked about using SNS and inducing
lactation. I brought up the idea of donor milk to the pedi and he was
interested in the latest info on milk banks and donor milk. Is there more
current info on milk banks and donor milk than in BREASTFEEDING AND HUMAN
LACTATION? I am currently reading up on this in that book. Upon talking with
the father this evening, he reports that the baby was not doing well with the
homemade formula this evening. They have not been able to conceive and the
mother has had milk for a few years due to what her dr. says has to do with the
pituitary gland. It sounds to me as though it could be in her favor. Am I
correct?
I appreciate any more info that anyone could provide pertaining to this
situation by e-mailing me privately. I just can't keep up with the all the
thought provoking and educational digests and my in basket is getting full. But
I'm enjoying it!
TIA!
