Ann talks about a mom who resists suggestions in spite of pain:

When I made suggestions to mom, she
tended to resist them, despite her pain, by making comments about "oh
but
his mouth is too small" or "he does not like that position."

This can be very frustrating. It's like she's saying, "Fix it, but
don't change it." I often take an approach like:
""Indulge me if you will. Let me get baby latched in the way I'm
describing. (By that time, I've already tried describing and
demonstrating in every conceivable way what I'm trying to get her to do
with no success. It's time for the "hands on" approach.) If it doesn't
feel better, I won't bring it up again."
In most cases, the mom is genuinely surprised that it does feel better.
If not, I assume my initial assessment of the cause was wrong. If it
does feel better, then we go on to having her do it herself.

Winnie
