Ok - Jaye here: Step back all and let's re-read what Linda wrote:

Secondly, tho unrelated to what all I have shared thus far, I am consulting
with an OT (occupational therapist) as baby gags so easily. EVEN today when
mom nursed baby while mom was sitting up, baby gagged and choked. She
ALWAYs nurses baby laying down, for this reason.

I think baby needs some tongue assessment/exercises that is beyond by
scope. Baby did not like the shield at the breast either. So, I kinda feel
baby has other issues and that is why she is being so stubborn to take a
bottle.

Jaye again. Ok - while I agree I don't care for the suggestion of a
stubborn baby - I don't like labeling babies any more than I like labeling
any other human - there is some concern here that has been overlooked. The
baby HAS a problem. She gags too easily, chokes too easily - what is THIS
problem all about? Is this a posterior TT causing problems? Is this a
tight muscle issue? Is this 'baby got suctioned like crazy at birth and is
now orally defensive? Is it a fast strong let down baby cannot manage?
What is it? I know I'm interested.

Maybe we should be focusing on THAT problem for right now because baby needs
some assistance. Linda has clearly stated that this is beyond her
experience/scope of practice. Babies who refuse a bottle are smart kids. I
tell parents that all the time and ask them if they prefer the "real thing"
or something fake (if you catch my drift) - I always say this with a little
wink. :-) They get it then! Yes, sometimes baby MUST take a bottle - there
is no choice - and I agree that going through 25 different nipples is just
confusing. Get one most like mom/breastfeeding (imo) and stick with it. If
dad is interfering then maybe they should sit down and talk about their
priorities: If mom is trying to go back to work and everything is working
against that (including dad) then maybe they need to reconsider that
option.and look for ways for mom to stay home or take baby with her.

Let's address the other problem, imo. It seems to be a lot more important
at this moment than getting baby to take that bottle.

Respectfully,

Jaye
