Hello,
My name is Tammy and I am an IBCLC at a WIC office. This is my first post and I'm hoping to find some help for a mom experiencing quite a bit of pain. She gave me permission to post.
Baby is 11 months old and breastfeeding has been going fine up until a few weeks ago when infant spent time in the hospital due to dehydration. During this time he began breastfeeding quite freqeuntly, 12+ times/day. Mom developed teaSr at the base of both nipples where they connect to the areola. The tears have now become quite large and painful. Mom found breastfeeding too painful and began pumping. Tears worsened . Mom tried larger shields without relief. Mom has applied APNO to area and has put infant back to breast and is trying to nurse through the pain. She called me today for help. Discussed good latch and release with mom as well as pump technique via phone. Client will be coming in tomorrow for help. Mom would like to breastfeed for at least another year. Would love to have your helpful imput.
