Susan asks "If we can sell cows milk in a carton, really please tell me what
is different from making that a safe process for human milk?"

Not much, to my way of thinking.  The June 2011 Breastfeeding Medicine has
an article in it discussing just how cheap and easy it is to heat-treat
human milk, killing off deadly viruses (HIV) while retaining many of the
antiinfective properties.  No special equipment required: a cooking fire,
wide mouth jar with lid, pot and water are about all you need.

The point is that milk can carry disease and germs and mothers need to know
that.  Heck -- I think it was at a HMBANA conference that I learned the
greatest source of contamination of expressed milk was **the mother's own
unwashed hands.**  Our role as IBCLCs is to tell the mother of the risks,
and benefits, of using human milk coming from some place other than a direct
feed-at-breast.
