I can't talk to you about data, but rather experience. Sadly, I haven't
found this to be the case. After going into pregnancy an E or F cup, I
looked forward to that mythical reduction in size at the end of 4.5
years of breastfeeding. No luck. If anything, I am even a bit larger.
On the other hand, lots of women I know with more average sized breasts
end up somewhat smaller in the end. I think I might focus on other
positive aspects of breastfeeding with this mom :-)
