Hello. Since I am an IBCLC who also happens to work in a Methadone Clinic I thought I would send my resources. The main text on Opioid Addiction is published by the U.S. Dept for Health and Human Resources Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Center, www.samhsa.gov

The book is A Treatment Improvement Protocol, TIP 43, printed in 2005. On page 218, it cites AAP recommendtion (1983) that methadone is compatible with breastfeeding up to 20mg/24 hours. There are other studies quoted which found minimal methadone in breastmilk no matter what the mothers daily dose was.

Email me privately for more details and study info if wanted.

  Hope this helps,
Darlene Coyne, MSN, IBCLC, APRN, BC
