I had occassion to use the Ames test when living in Puerto Rico. As you
can imagine, we had thrush, thrush and more thrush and nothing seemed to
cure it. In fact, we routinely used diflucan for repeat infections as
early as 1991 with good results. I digress. The results with the Ames
were not impressive. I could get false positives or get a negative even
when the baby was "foaming" at the mouth. My partner and I suspected
that the climate, hot and humid, may have been a factor on the test
results because of the effect on the strips even though we stored them as
suggested. It's certainly worth a try but I would not reley totally on
it to make recommendations for or no go for treatment. Ann Cagigas, in
the cold and windy Nations Capitol
