Hi Regina

Thank you for airing your concerns. Before we write the IBLCE exam we have
to sign a long list stating among other things: "I agree to be governed by
the IBLCE Code of Ethics and the IBLCE Disciplinary Procedures during all
periods for which my certification is effective." Code of Ethics #24
states: "Adhere to those provisions of the International Code of Marketing
of Breast-milk Substitutes which pertain to health workers.

The ILCA Standards of Practice 3.2 reads: "...practice within the scope of
the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and
subsequent resolutions, maintaining an awareness of conflict of interest
when/if profiting from the rental or sale of breastfeeding equipment."

While the Code does not cover breast pumps, it does cover bottles and teats
(nipples). In this regard, I know Avent's marketing does contravene the
Code - I can't speak for Playtex as they only sell underwear here. I do
expect our professional organization (ILCA) to set the example and share
your dismay at the conference sponsorship and exhibits. WABA had guidelines
for baby-friendly conferences.
